the cage machine has a constant motion. It never varies. The ball always come from the same point in space.
Concentrate on where the pitcher is releasing the ball before you get to the plate. Then, try to pick the ball up with your eyes just before the pitcher releases the ball.
this will also help you to recognize the type of pitch being thrown

That's not to weird actually. In the batting cages you are getting pitches of similar speed and location so it becomes more of a memory swing. In actual play you have a lot of other things going on including nerves too. The ball will change speed or move around, I'm not sure what level you are talking about but if someone is throwing a curve or screwball those are tough to hit. The only advice I can give is one you have probably heard before but here it goes "keep your eye on the ball" it will come trust me.

Smae thing happened to me in my brief stint in the minors
I went 0-7, with 7 strikeouts!
The cage machine has a constant motion. The ball come from the same point, at the same speed, at the same time, to the same place. The pitch doesn't vary at all.
I can destroy the ball in the cage.
Watch where the pitcher releases the ball from, and try to pick it up as soon as it leaves his hand.
Be sure you are also putting your weight on your back leg when in the box!
Who knew there was so much thought behind a game as slow as baseball!

All posters have given great advice and helpful hints. You say you are already relaxed at the plate. Try these three things:
(1) Don't stand flatfooted. Balance on the balls on your feet.
(2) When the pitcher is about to make his delivery get your body in motion. Don't wait till the ball is on its way before starting your stride.
(3) Always set for the fast ball, it's easier to adjust if the ball breaks. If you're guessing breaking ball and it's a fast ball, you're dead meat. Good luck.

The differences are, in the cages, you get the same rotation and movement (if there is any) most of the time. In live pitching, you get different speeds and movement along with different arm angles. Just keep it up. It's hard, but you'll probably get it down. If you don't, you can always become a pitcher.

When you are in the cages, you are there to work. My guess is you are locked in when you are there. When you are at BP or in games, there are distractions which you are allowing to get in your head. When you are hitting anywhere, it is you and the pitcher/machihne. My guess (not being able to see) is that you are not seeing the ball come off of your bat in live situations. Focus, baby - just focus!!!! You'll be fine.

i had the same problem but i fixed it
just keep your eye on the ball and don't think about nothin else just if it is a strike or a ball then smacked the heck out of it like nobody's watching. try not to look at the pitcher just only at the ball.

its probably because you are used to whatever is thrown in the cages(assumeing that you use a pitching machiene) and in practice you have change-ups,curves,fastballs,knuckles and all off that stuff try spending less time in the cages or try new ones i live in des moines iowa and we have cages that have curve balls and some that throw different pitches like the ones above and good luck to ya

If each and every person has I guess it grew to become into Shawn Bradley. He purely seems purely like the style of guy who does not have the skill to regulate his bowels. Plus, purely understanding that each and each participant on the different team is aiming to posterize you with nuts in the face has have been given to make you want to placed on grownup diapers.
