They're the same as the rest of us--good/bad, beautiful/ugly, smart/ignorant. I try to judge people by their individual behavior, not by their skin color, religion, or nationality.

After the Shah of Iran was, for lack of better words, forced to flee his country (and was denied asylum in the U.S. by then-President Jimmy Carter), there was a large population explosion which was supposed to fuel the upcoming military and para-military operations, but, to the consternation of the government there, most of the younger population (under 30) tends to prefer the Western lifestyle over the theocracy that rules the country now. This has led to the Iranian Government making more and more concessions to keep the populace happy.
They're basically stuck in Iran, proud of being Iranian or Persian (which is how most people feel about their own country), and trying to balance the situation they're in against the lifestyle that they want. As in many countries, the 'people' and the 'government' are two separate entities. What most people see of Iran is the government and their stances on issues, not the people there.

Well, if it's like the majority of other countries, the Iranian people are probably fine, but they've been filled with propaganda by their government so they think Americans are awful....most countries who think Americans are awful actually have a problem with the American government, not the actual people....I dont have a problem with Iranians, but I have a problem with their government. I wish more people would realize these awful countries aren't full of awful people, it's the government of their country that shapes outsiders opinions of the people.

I'm not going to begin to spout the PC **** that nearly every answer so far has, if they don't respect me and my values I wouldn't like them. I had a few Iranian freinds at school who were pretty nice.
I don't like the president Mamoud Ahmadinejad, I don't trust Iran with nuclear capabilities, I don't think anyone else should be starting nuclear programs for arms development and even though these scum are saying they are only starting their programs for energy they are clearly lying!
Iran wan't to destroy Israel and i'm not looking for another holocaust.
The North Koreans don't eat, their country is decades behind the south and what better way to step up than to annex it! Neither can be trusted with nukes.

I like everyone until they give me a reason not to. I have met some great Iranian people and some not so great. But, there is good and bad in every nationality. =)

They are people with children and families and they have the same wants and desires for love, education, decent living conditions, etc. that we and all other people share. The battles are always between the ruling elilte of nations and they are always economic in nature. The ruling elites fight over natural resources, land and markets. The public is lied to and subsequently used to fight those battles.

Same as everyone else, struggling in a confusing and dangerous world.
Iran actually beautiful cities and progressive minded people. Don't believe all the propaganda, they are not all crazy fundamentalists living in a barren desert.
Iran was the birthplaces of algebra which makes all technology possible. Just learned that in college math class.

I'm not sure about what's going on now, but I used to date one about 12 years ago and he and his family and friends were really sweet.
As far as the political situation, I don't know enough about it to make a judgement, but I think the people are fine.

Well, I know I wouldn't want to go for a walk in their country. I would probalbly be grabbed and my head cut off and the video put on the internet. Other than that, I am sure they are lovely people.
