Kobe is the best right now. Here's why.
First, to the guy who brought up Arenas' passing: Arenas averages 6 apg and Kobe averages 5.5. Is this supposed to be the vast difference you talk about between someone who passes and someone who doesn't? Kobe's apg for a 2 guard whose primary role is to score is high. Compare his 5.5 (tops on the Laker team by the way) to other top scorers like Allen - 4.2, Pierce - 4.0, Redd - 2.4, Nowitski - 3.5, and Carmelo - 4.0. Kobe's rebounding is also high for his position. Here his 5.8 is much higher than Wade - 4.8, Arenas - 4.7, or Iverson - 3.1. Kobe's six time all defensive team selections attest to that aspect of his game.
But beyond the numbers...
NO ONE ELSE can approach what he's done the past 4 games! There is a very short list of maybe 5 or 6 who can do it once. Twice in a row? That list quickly narrows down to one. Four in a row and you are forced to go back forty years in search of comparisons. When Kobe decides to take over a game NO ONE can do it better and THAT is what makes him the best right now bar none.

It's WAY to hard to pick a best overall because some players play different positions so there are different stats. For example if Shaq and AI both have 20 points which is more impressive? Shaq's because even tough it's the same number his position makes it more impressive than is AI scored it.
As for being the best....
Personally I think LeBron or Kobe, I've never heard of D-Wade or Nowitzki being great until doing good in the playoffs and that's their team not them alone.LeBron was considered the best by some without even getting to the playoffs. I don't know much about kobe but all I hear about is his point streak, that 1 part of the game, it's probably the most important part but it's ONE part. So I have to LeBron James even though he hasn't got a ring it took Jordan a while to get one too.

I agree The man has endless amounts of energy and power. My husband was a Dominique Wilkins fan when he played for the Atlanta Hawks. Not that man was strong and unstoppable too

You have got to be kidding. Kobe is not the best player in the league. Last game, a loss, he went 7 for 26 from the field for only 23 points. He is a brick laying ball hog, who will always be in the shadow of MJ. A dirty player that is a whiny b***h to boot.

He's the best scorer in the NBA, but he's not the best player. He is unstoppable, but he can't win a championship without Shaq.

No, Kobe is the best at making shots, not the best overall. The best player has to make clutch shots AND pass the ball. And so I have to say Gilbert Arenas. He can make shots and pass the ball. He has more assists than Bryant.

Don't ask a question if you're going to answer it yourself in the heading. It defeats the purpose of asking.
Kobe's a good choice, but I'd put him third after Garnett and Wade.
