the A has a dual core turion 64 56 (1.8ghz)

the B has a amd turion 64 single core (2.0ghz)

now the 2.0ghz is faster than 1.8ghz? but since the 1.8ghz is dual core cpu is that faster than the 2ghz?

Simple.

You get the dual core. In the coming months, more and more programs will be dual core oriented and pretty soon say 5 years from now, everything will be dual core. Then with your system you are good to go. With any single core computer you are lagging behind. Granted some things the dual core are not fast now, but wait till a year from now and then you will be glad you did not buy the single core system.

You probably would not see any difference.

If you get a flavor of Vista Premium for 64 bit, you actually might see the dual core 64 do something cool... but probably not. What you need in either case is LOTS of RAM.

But you know what, I wouldn't buy anything at BestBuy and here's why. If you have trouble with the brand new computer, YOU'RE STUCK. They won't take it back, they will hassle you about support. They stink. Visit your local Staples or Costco store and look there. You see, these two stores simple take it back without any needless questions.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Dual core is better than single core. A dual-core 1.8GHz processor has essentially two processors running at 1.8GHz, while the single core at 2.0GHz will only run one processor. If at all possible, buy a laptop with a dual-core processor & at least 1GB of RAM.

The bottom line answer is 'yes'.... the dual core is better. It processes information faster and separately - capable of true multi-tasking (single core is not). If you go to the 'intel' site, they have a video to show you the exact difference. Pick around the site - you'll find it here.... also they have come out with Quad Core now - so...... technology is already old...as we speak.... HAH

Two processorss running are better for more than one reason. Less heat in a laptop is very good. Two processors are more efficient.

I would look for faster processors though. In a lap top I do not know just what is available. I have two Pentium 4 3.2 GH running in this desk top. This computer was a trial version gut it sure is doing its job. Well worth it.

The same programs / games that I run on my single core desktop, perform much better on my dual core laptop, both use the same amount of RAM.

2 cores make the biggest difference if you do multitasking.
If you are only going to use it to surf the web, do some word processing and watch videos.. you wont notice a difference.
unless you are doing all three at the same time.
