If human beings did not suffer from guilt would we all run amok and do more damage to one another than what we are presently doing.? Is it guilt that controls us & not love?

hello !!!

it's a little of both actually.
but i think its the finer sensitivities that make us human.
lower animals(apparently & supposedly) don't have guilty conscience,do they fight and create pandemonium?
certainly not, thet live in harmony in shared habitats.
we ought to take their example really.
what makes us human is ''conditional positive regard'' & ''irrational conditions of worth'' that drive us nuts all the time.
its neither guilt or love but our perceptions of both that control us.

cheers & god bless:-)

It is love that makes us human.
The feeling of guilt is just the realisation of what we lack, and what we ought to work towards. If a person does not respond to feeling of guilt adequately, then it vanishes, evaporates, almost for ever, till something very deep, sharp and intense strikes at heart again ! Guilt is not a very essential thing to happen, it is a consequence of absence of something else.
Love is a capability, that a person has to consciously evolve into, to become a true human being !

Certainly there is no guilt involved in making of human beings. It is love and the need for bonding that governs the relations of man to man.

Guilt is just the festering feeling of escaping with something bad from other people's attention but your own.

Love is more than just a feeling, on the other hand. It's "power".

I say both of these add up to one's humanity.

The main difference between us and other animals is the ability to reason and analize.

Other animals do feel guilt and love so that is not a factor.

love is a natural emotion.
Guilt is learnt...like to one person something may not be a sin ..to the other that could be a sin and he may feel guilty about that.
like eating non veg.. or drinks etc.
There is a moral law working in our minds always even as we are little children. Something inside says that "it pains others.. we should not do".. But in course of time we become selfish and intolerant and this conciousness vanishes.
So. it is sympathy and tolerance that makes us human.
Love is selective.

Love makes us guilty when we do wrong. But it's unfair to say that only human being feel that!!!
aren't animals emotional? just because they cannot express their feelings in a language that humans do not understand, they become emotionless????????

(forgive me, but i LOVE animals and am an animal rights activist. didn't mean to sound vindictive!!)

I think both.... Where would the guilt come from if we didn't care about anything.
