Are the chances greater that we bring him back or does he do the whole "Russian" thing and leave?

I think the chances are greater that he'll sign elsewhere. Perhaps Washington where some sources are saying he'd be a great fit with Ovechkin. The Red Wings have had difficulties in attempting to sign him since November:

Also a factor is that Pavel Datsyuk has earned a bit of a reputation as being a no-show during the playoffs. The Red Wings probably want to see him put up or shut up this year before deciding to re-sign him:

No matter his results in the playoffs, i would say "so long Pavel". There is no way the wings can pay him 7 million, like he wants, because the year after, they are going to have to sign Zetterberg as well. Hank is far above Datsyuk, in his game, his effort and the heart he brings to the team. Let him go, that will leave the money to sign a couple of free agents, and the chances that Bertuzzi is going to stay, means more money to spend there too. Also, Schneider is going to be up for a new deal too, as well as Lang who needs to take his hooking and holding show elsewhere. The wings have alot of things to look at in the next couple years, and paying Pavel 7 million should not even be a consideration. Plus, I think he is an undersized wuss, that is affraid of the corners, because everyone on the ice, is bigger than him.

I've never heard of 'the russian thing and leave'. Unless you are referring to a few YOUNG players that have come over here and with the language barrier and such immediately turn tail and go back home. I think Datsyuk is past that stage.

I sure hope they can re-sign him but things are not looking good.

On the Wings pre-game show yesterday they said that Datsyuk was asking for BIG bucks and Wings management said he did not have the stats for those bucks.

He's good, heck, he's excellent in the regular season but he disappears in the playoffs.

Its great they locked him up for see you later, besides the shown fact that it would desire to blow up of their faces too. Im not probably too worried approximately his previous playoff performances, he grew to become into injured final placed up season and you cant truly think of that a guy that stable would have a occupation crammed with undesirable placed up-season appearances. yet what occurs whilst Zetterberg sees this and makes a decision to decide for a similar style of deal? If this occurs, very nearly one million/2 of the Wings complete gross sales would be used on Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Lidstrom. that's an excellant center for a team for the reason that all 3 gamers are great on the two aspects of the ice, yet administration will would desire to be truly clever whilst filling out the the remainder of the roster.

Datsyuk is a franchise player so they will try to re-sign him

I think they will sign him just because of the way he gets his job done on the ice.People say he disappears in the play offs.Does Linstrom disappear also. He's too good of a play maker to say that. When it takes two defenders concentrating on him doesn't that leave the ice open for others to score?
