Happy Birthday!
I hope you have a good day on your special day. As long as your friends acknowledge your birthday in some way, shape, or form, then it is Ok. A phone call or birthday card should suffice. If they are really close friends and promised to be there, then I would expect them to show up, unless an emergency came up...Best Wishes today.

If they are extremely busy and at least make an effort to send a gift or send a card with a happy birthday or something I wouldn't mind. That's what I do when I can't to show up to birthday parties, I send them a big giftie and a card with a happy birthday, and then I give them a phonecall. And then the next day, I wish them a happy birthday again and apologize for not being able to come. I mean, your friends doesn't need to be this specific but the least they can do is wish you happy birthday over the phone and explain why they can't come, you know.
Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday babe I hope you have a great day and you enjoy your day with the friends that are able to spend it with you. Unfortunately in this day and age we all seem to be too busy with life to stop and remember the important things and I think we have to understand and respect that but I do hope they have acknowledged you day in some way even if they can't be with you x

well i have gave up on my friends.
for my birthday 2 years ago my boyfriend managed to get me and upto 15 friends v.i.p passes to a very exclusive nightclub.
everyone was up for it and i gave them plenty of notice (3 weeks so they could book time of work and get babysitters ect) in the end it was me, Leza, my fella, my brother and his best mate.
i was really let down (some of the excuses were really pathetic)and my fella was also pissed off since he organised it.
now i dont bother arranging owt special i just tell them all where i will be going and they are welcome to come if they want i appriecate the people who can be bother to make the effort and i dont go out of my way anymore for the others who dont bother.

Happy Birthday!
And it depends on how far in advance you told them, and if they call and wish you a happy birthday their still just as good as the ones that came, you cant be mad if they had prior arrangements.

It depends on waht their other commitments are. If, for example, they are working or visiting a sick relative, etc, then it is understandable. But if they are just blowing you off because they can't be bothered, maybe you need to talk with these "friends". Well, that's my opinion anyway.
