You might need a new shift shaft. Remove the shift lever and inspect the splines on the shift shaft. Any wear - replace it.

You or whoever rides this machine must be ruff on the shifter. I suggest being a little lighter on the shift pedal. As for fixing it Guardrailjim has told you the correct way to do it. However, let me suggest an alternative, this may depend on the condition of the machine in general. For a quicky fix, install the shift pedal as best you can, take it to a weld shop and have them tack weld it to the shaft. If it ever has to come apart you'll just have to cut it off (easily done) and it probably needs to be replaced anyway. Any weld shop should be able to do the job for you real cheap.

Hi, are the gears stripping or just the shift pedal where it connects to the gearbox ?
