its very hard to explain... imagine your in a space ship travelling to the moon, or somewhere. what your doing is travelling through space(as in to say your moving in a direction or "vector") and since it takes time to get there your also travelling through time. now the complicated thing is things like gravity affects space-time. imagine the space-time continum as a streached sheet, like a trampoline, now imagine you dropped a heavy ball onto it, what happens is it leaves a depression on the sheet. this represents a planet in space, the mass and gravity of the planet "bends" the s-t cont. actually affecting how long it'll take to travel in a so called straight line. not a great explaination but i hope it helps!!

In physics, spacetime is a mathematical model that combines space and time into a single construct called the space-time continuum. Spacetime is usually interpreted with space being three-dimensional and time playing the role of the fourth dimension.
Spacetimes are the arenas in which all physical events take place — for example, the motion of planets around the Sun may be described in a particular type of spacetime, or the motion of light around a rotating star may be described in another type of spacetime. The basic elements of spacetime are events. In any given spacetime, an event is a unique position at a unique time. Examples of events include the explosion of a star or the single beat of a drum.
