I understand blogging, honestly, I do. We all need time to get our thoughts out in the open, a chance to breathe and vent. However, names or no names, this woman is being completely unprofessional.

It's one thing is she said, "I'm frustrated by how poor it seems the office is running" vs "This guy I work with is such an idiot. Never gets his work in on time, always late, yada, yada, yada." Freedom of speech sure. But with that freedom comes responsibility.

The boss was completely out of line for discussing disciplinary actions (which are private matters between supervisor and employee), and for discussing issues about other colleagues. Direct or indirect nastiness is unprofessional and the equivalent of demeaning office gossip.

Have your sister print out the offending blog posts, highlight the ones that really pinpoint what she's (the boss) saying, highlight the infractions regarding the disciplinary issue, and take it to the higher ups. Once the higher ups have notification, your sister needs to wash her hands of the issue. It may cause some tension between her and the boss but from there, the boss is really in no place to harass, demean, or otherwise prevent her from properly doing her work.

Hopefully, she'll either see the err of her ways or she will be fired. Preferably the latter.

The blog does not have to have a name to make the target (as your sister) recognizable.

If you (she) want to get the boss in trouble, just anonymously post the URL in a public place in the office, (such as a bullettin board in the breakroom) with nothing else. Just the URL. No comments, no signature, not a word. Do not post it online, where it can be traced back to you.

Someone is bound to get curious over this url, and look it up. And share with colleagues, and the word will get around. Someone might even complain to higher management. It will achieve one of three things: 1) Nothing will come of it, except a pissed off boss. 2) She will get fired for the stuff that she posted or 3) She will get scared and take all that stuff down. Or possibly, a combination of the above.

Good Luck

Its going to depend entirely on the company's individual policies. I have a friend who worked at a medical facility and she bogged about a patient she had a good experience with. It wasn't negative in any way and never mentioned any names of anyone involved including staff and she still lost her job. I personally think this is a bunch of BS.

In your sisters case I can see where that could hurt her feelings and was probably poor choice on the part of the boss...but honestly...that's her personal page and essentially, even though it was out there for everyone, its still a free country where people can speak their minds.

If your sister honestly feels someones rights were violated then she should report it to her superiors, but unless the company she works for is as anal as my friends, chances are her boss will get a slap on the wrist and will just learn to set her blogs/page to private so your sister cant find her rants again.

If she really wants revenge I'm going to have to agree with the guy above me who said to print out the blogs and hang them on the bulletin Bord for everyone to see. Ultimately as a manager you should have enough class and tact to not do something like that. Its definitely wrong, but probably not anything they can get in trouble for.

Well if this blog doesn;t mention names there is not much to be done. It is pretty tasteless , however, that a person in a position of authority would do such a thing. Does your sister's boss have a boss? Surely this could be brought to the attention of the "Higher-ups' in the company.

It depends on the content and how obvious it is for people to find out who she is talking about e.g. has she named the Company/department etc as to whether your sister could claim constructive dismissal on a breach of the implied mutual trust and confidence between your sister and her boss.

Either way, if I were her, I would print it off and anonomously (if she prefers) sent it to you sister's boss's line manager or Human Resources Dept. so that this can be dealt with. It is totally unacceptable as this lady is in a position of trust (a manager) and has clearly abused this. Its a complete breach of fidelity.

Good Luck!

Your sister should print them off, making sure there are no identifying marks on the printouts (like URLs). Better yet, print them off at a local copy shop - totally anonymous

Make copies, then send a copy to her boss' supervisor, and even her boss. Probably it will make her squirm really bad. If she was really bold, she could tack the printouts up in a public place in her office, like a break room. But she better be careful not to get caught.

Well, if it didn't mention names I don't think it's a breach of anything.

People have been fired because of their myspace content. If your sister is that upset, perhaps she should speak with the boss. Again, since your sis's name isn't mentioned, she will probably not comply with taking it off her blog.

Yes, this is TOTALLY out of order!

OMG!!

This is certainly a breach of confidentiality and this person so needs to be taken to task. What an absolute mis-use of their authority! Geez!!

Your sister should complain to her bosses first thing tomorrow morning, without fail.

It's very unprofessional for your sister's boss to do that. I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done, but she should at least bring it to her boss' attention and give her the chance to correct it.

No, its not a breach of confidentiality.

Funnily enough, people are allowed to "slag" off other people. Its called free speach. Get used to it.

If you want to do something, print off the blog and tell your sister to pin it on the bulletin board at work, or piss in her coffee, whatever your personal style is.
