Just want to skip the beltways and the busy roadways

I live in PA, Altoona, PA, so I will probably take the I81 route and connect in Richmond, then get to I95 from there. Thanks!

Well, I'm assuming you are coming from the West, so first I would recommend I-68 over I-70. 68 goes through the panhandle of Maryland and is much easier that 70 through the hills of Pennsylvania.

However, if you are far enough West, have you considered I-81down to I-64, connecting up with I-95 in Richmond? You'll skip all the craziness of DC and have a much easier go of things.

Depends on where you're starting from.

If you're coming from the West (as in Ohio or further west), take I-70 to I-77, go through West Virginia and southern Virginia, pick up I-74 just as you cross the North Carolina border, then pick up I-40 in Winston-Salem taking it east to I-95.

If you're a little further east, take I-70 to I-79, go through West Virginia and pick up I-77 in Charleston.

Otherwise, if you're in the Pennsylvania mountains or in Maryland, you're really better off taking I-70 to I-270 to the Beltway and picking up I-95 on the south side of DC. Otherwise take I-70 to I-81 to I-66 to pick up the Beltway on the far west side of DC to get to I-95, or take I-81 to I-64 to pick up I-95 in Richmond.
