we just did a lab in my chemistry class on saponification (making soap.) He had to add heat to our mixture though. I'm not really sure how exactly to do it without adding heat, because it would be and endothermic reaction then or just using they heat givn off by the reaction (exothermic.) I'd imagine the energy given off in the reaction would bond substances together due to the heat and cause a misture to homogenous. Then when cooled, the soap would result. Sorry if this isn't relevant to you, this is what we did in out chem. class
