They're thinking about it, but a lot of people believe the Uncle Remus character is racist.

Should Disney do this, and open itself up to criticism.

It hasn't been released on DVD in the U.S., but has been released overseas.

It also played theaters as recently as 1986.

It was the first movie I ever saw growing up.

Yes.

It may be considered racist in some circles, but for the time was more along the lines of stereotyping. All stereotypes contain some elements of truth. Hiding the past does no good, and it is a good movie overall. If someone doesn't like it, they don't have to buy it. If anyone wants to put it in context, they can do that in schools, books, or magazine/web articles if desired.

They might as well, it's a part of history.
The old cartoons had so many black face characters and racist undertones toward every race (except whites of course) and religion.
Did you ever see those Shirley Temple movies with the Steppenfetch guy? Those are pretty racist, but people love those.

Yes they should. Splash Mountain would make a lot more sense to people if they did... and the movie isn't racist, it's realistic & historical. Just like people think "To Kill a Mockingbird" is racist. Otherwise, "History is bunk."

I thought I'd seen it on DVD in the store. If not, they should release it anyway. Yes, it is a little racist, but our country just can't make all the things we did wrong disappear.
