As a kid, I always got in the water at the beach, no matter how cold it was or how cold the water was. As an adult, I've noticed I'm not the only adult on the beach, who hates getting wet/going swimming in the ocean if it's cold or foggy (tropical beaches excluded here--love those).

Kids don't seem to feel the cold or find it uncomfortable while all the adults are sitting on their beach towels ON THE SAND, dry as a bone because the ocean is COLD unless it's Hawaii or something.

Why is this?

Because water is fun for kids to play with/in...They are oblivious to the temperature...

It's not just kids that do it. Living in a land-locked state, my opportunity to get to the ocean is very limited. Therefore, when I have had that chance, even if it's cold (though of course not freezing cold), I will jump in the water! Last time I did this was in September, in Brazil, and my friends (all locals) thought I was nuts for going in the water in this cold! (It was about 65 degrees - the water was a tad cooler).

But still, once you get going, running, playing, whatever, you warm up a bit, and it's just a lot of fun!

Being an adult sucks. Yes, I used to go swimming in Lake Michigan in March when it was VERY cold and now, I won't go in unless it's above 70 degrees. I think it has to do with that kids are moving around so much that they stay warmer and we just kind of walk around in it and freeze. Also, kids love to roll around in the sand and we can't stand even a little getting on us or heaven forbid, in our beds. I sure wish I had the energy and enthusiasm that I had as a child. I miss everything being an adventure. I like to watch the kids play at the beach, it reminds me of being young and I envy their energy!

well considering i have a little sister i understand this. She will always get in the water.See it is because the kids fell the sand and thier fet are very sesitive and the sand burns them so they get in the water.Sometimes kids just love the water and others they are trying to prove something. It is so common for kids to just hurry into the water. Some kids enjoy the cold.Even now i still love the cold water and get in with the kids.HOPE this answers your question.ROCK ON! ENJOY! BYE.Nice to talk to you.

Kids these days.......they like everthing. I mean the beach is fun because there are waves that crash into them. You know like a amusement parks there is that artificial wave thing? Where they make waves in the water? Anyways, you see a lot of kids there. Because they like waves!

Because swimming is fun. At least the kids seem to think so, and so do I, and many other people.
