They are about 2cm long, black with a brown and cream herringbone pattern on their backs. They have six legs, black wings, and they fly.

Check out http://bugguide.net/node/view/6448/bgimage and browse the pages (or at least pages 1-4-9 to see different types) to see if it is one of those guys. They are dermestid beetles aka carpet beetles, quite common in homes and can be real pests. They eat anything and everything; food crumbs, skin flakes, hair, etc. There are quite a few species and appearance changes from one to the other but they are all small, fairly rounded, and the dominant colors tend to be black/ yellow/ cream .

1) Sexton beetle
2) tiger beetle
Sexton beetles lay their eggs in rotten or dead animalsand bury them hence sexton. Tiger beetles eat smaller insects than themselves and are a gardeners friend.

They are Ladybugs, leave them alone, they eat mites.
