Go to rv.net and search towing capacites, this is an excellent site for rv'ing. The formulas are too complicated for most people, that is what dealer will offer you. I have a f-350 with turbo diesel, 3:73 gears and pull a 12,000 lb 5th wheel. 180,000 miles no major mechanical problems.

A new vehicle dealer has the information. The specifications are listed in their brochures.

If you are planning on towing a tandem trailer, minimum of a HD 3/4T or 1T P/U. Go with the GM or Dodge diesel 4.10 rear axle ratio.

Ford trucks seem to be more problematic.
