I agree Doc Emrick is the voice of the NHL...No one knows how to call a game with the type of clarity and passion as Doc. And, maybe, I am showing a bias, since I am a Devils fan, too...

I like Drew Remenda (no longer w/ the Sharks) and Randy Hahn. Sorry, not trying to be too biased (whoops too late) but these two guys are the best.. or were. Remenda left, but when the two were together, the game was fun to listen to and watch. When the Sharks score, Hahn screams at the top of his lungs are is really into the game.
I remember in one game, he lost his voice from shouting so much that he asked Remenda to take over for a bit while he caught his breath.
I haven't heard Doc Emrick, but he sounds like a very good commentator.
The commentator for the Penguins is good as well, especially his funny pharses!

From what I've heard of Doc Emrick, I definitely have to agree with you there, he does seem to know quite a bit about the game and does very well commenting on it. Also, Jim Hughson of CBC's second game on Hockey Night in Canada is very good at what he does, having a superb knowledge of the game and doing very well commenting on it. Also, Rick Jeanerette in Buffalo. His voice is by far the most recognizable in all of hockey commentating, and it is somewhat entertaining to hear him when he gets excited. Granted, his voice is a bit scratchy and therefore kind of annoying, but it is still very entertaining to listen to him sometimes, especially when he gets excited during games.

Doc Emrick is great.
Best home team announcer is Rick Jeanneret.
My favorite all-time is Gary Thorne. He was awesome. But we don't have ESPN anymore so he's not calling the Stanley Cup playoffs anymore. :(

I'd have to say this should be awarded in pairs. These were & are some of my favorites past & present.
Doc Emrick & Bill Clement in Philly
Gary Thorne & Peter McNab in N.J.
Dave Strader & Mickey Redmond-when they were in Detroit
Sam Rosen &John Davidson-when w/Rangers
Danny Gallivan & Dick Irvin-Montreal's best duo
There are lots of great commentators by themselves like
Lang in Pitts. The Late Dan Kelly-for the Blues
Jim Hughson, Bob Cole for CBC. Most of Buffalo's past & present. Chris Cutford ,Gord Miller for TSN (as long as he leaves McGuire at home). And I forget Chicago's colorful announcer over the past 2 decades he was great too.

Got to say Mike Lang was always one of the best. Although he has been with the Pens since like 5 years in, so no surprise he knows what he is doing and is a great announcer. Really hard to believe that Fox Sports wouldn't give him a new contract, and was great the team gave him a contract for the radio calls. Besides how many other broadcasters can also claim making the calls in a movie(Sudden Death).

i would have to say rick jenrette.he gives credit to the opposing team and is probally one of the most exciting announcers i have ever heard.he really get excited when the game is going on and is not afraid to criticize his team when he thinks they are not playing their game.i also like mickey redmon, and the caps have a pretty good announcer i don't know his name.these 3 will keep you awake when they announce some of the others put me to sleep!!!!

I totally agree that Paul Steigerwald and Bob Errey are the best. Bob is so much fun to listen to. Buy I'd also have to throw in Mike Lange as well (he does the radio broadcasts with Phil Bourque).
Let's Go Pens!!!
