I had a coldwater goby about a year ago, as a new fish owner I was unaware of the many different types and different names of each fish so don't know the common or latin name.
I have tried researching this subject but keep getting confused, I think I had a desert goby from looking at some pictures. No-one seems to know what I am talking about and a few fish shop people have flat out denied there is a coldwater goby.
I live in England so I need to know of the gobys available here. My dearly departed goby was about 2.5cm and I would like 1 of similar size. Any suggestions? please include latin names as some shop have said they order in latin and if they don't know the common name then tough basically.
Also this may seem silly, but when people say freshwater do they mean freshwater tanks, ponds or rivers etc?
Does anyone know any good websites?

I can give you a few names of gobies with common and latin names;

Broad-Headed sleeper goby/Dormitator Latifrons ; Size 10" and breeds at 4". Marine and brackish waters.[not suitable for comunity tank]

Spotted goby/Dormitator Maculatus;Size 10" and breeds at 4". Marine and brackish waters.[not suitable for comunity tank]

Purple-Striped gudgeon/Morgurnda morgurnda; Size 8" and breeds at 2". Fresh water[not to be kept with small fish]

Marbled Sleeper Goby/Oxyeleotris; Size one and a half feet.[Species tank]

Doria's Bumblebeefish/Brachygobius Doriae; Size; One and a half inches; Can be kept in fresh water[suitable for the comunity tank but will eat baby fish] Best foods are live daphnia and bloodworm and tubifex worms. I have actualy kept these gobies in fresh water and they were alright with other small fish.

Here is a great article about freshwater gobies: http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/breeding/McKane_Bumblebee_Gobies.html

Also, when people say freshwater, it could mean tanks, ponds or rivers.
