Very stupidly I left the uk to work and travel abroad and my then current bank account incurred minimal charges for 1 reason or another. I assume it was closed a long time ago. I didnt return to the uk and 5 years down the line need to go back to work for a few months. I have a foreign account and credit rating but am still registered on the electorial role and still a uk resident. When I go back i will be staying with parents. To open an account you need to prove where you live, but as i'll be with parents i have no utility bills and i dont have a full driving license just an old paper provisional. All the banks i have approached online require one piece of photo id, i have my passport, and they also need one piece of id for your address which i dont have any that comes within the guidelines. Any ideas. i need to open an account asap after i return home as my passport runs out and will take 3 weeks or so to replace and in that itme i need to be earning money.

I'm not a U.K. resident, but in the U.S. you would be able to have your parents write a letter and get it notarized and that would be as good as a utility bill.

Too complicated a scenario! Anyway, there is no reason why you can't open a bank account if you satisfy the account opening requirements!

Open a joint account with one of your parents. They should have all the proper IDs needed, plus you could just open one at their bank too.

sounds like your old account is still open, why not use it?

try asking if post office stamped envelop is accepted so u can have a document that states that u reside in ur parents place. if it is then ask one of ur friends to send u card or short letter so that u can have such document.

Have you asked and been turned down.

I don't think you have even asked so first ask the bank then if there is a problem your parents can help you. Not a problem.
