Poetry can express many things, life, death, love, in a both negative and positive way that touches our hearts. Pick a topic close to your heart that you think touches you, whether it makes you laugh, cry, happy, sad, or upset, if it touches you, most likely it will touch others too. Don't worry about being drastic, don't follow cliches, and be yourself. Remember, for poetry to touch you, you need a realistic topic.

I would say write your own poem, but I'm a poet so let me help. So what to write about? Well you could write about the way your daddy was or wasn't there for you growing up and all he's missed. Or...(last one) how you thought he was right for you but it didn't end up that way. And for future adivice just start writing. What ever you come up with if it's a line or the whole thing can be turned into a poem. Just don't think too hard about it.

I write poems when I have something to say. Look into your feelings, find emotions that are out of the ordinary. Find things that are making you upset or sad, for these things will be the ones easiest to write about. Good Luck.
