Well, when a man fights for something, there are two parties involved; the allies/supporters and the opposers/enemies.

The supporters see him as the "freedom fighter" who has taken up the task of fighting for something they all believe in or want to defend.

On the other hand, the enemies do not agree with the ideal being fought for and therefore oppose it. They then regard them as disturbers of the peace and see them as dangers (i.e "terrorists").

Hence the saying "One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter". Ultimately, it means that when people have very aggressive opposing views on something, they tend to fight; hurting each other in the end.

It's easy.....

John Brown.... attacks Harpers Ferry back before the civil war to get weapons to arm the slaves to spread a national rebellion against slavery. For many people he was a terrorist because would kill anyone to get it done. For me as a black person he was a great freedom fighter and one of the only white people that ever truly cared about what happened to black people.

It means that people judge the actions of others differently, depending on whether they agree with their motives.
And many people do.
However, I think this is wrong. Targeting defenseless civilians for attack (terrorism) is reprehensible no matter what the motivation is.
