It was a constitutional amendment, passed by congress (at the urging of president Wilson) and ratified by 2/3 of the states that gave women the right to vote in 1920. The woman's suffrage movement was a process that took decades and involved a variety of people and groups including people like Susan B. Anthony.

Both men and women collectively. The women who put their foot down about having the right, and the men who possessed the honor to recognize their equality and assist them in getting the right made legal. This occurred at multiple levels and many places in society, and is sustained this way. It is the basic honor of all that recognize our equal rights, as well as our equal responsibility to one another. To focus on leaders only, is to invalidate the support and contribution, no matter how big and how small, of all those unknown and unspoken of in the history of it. It is quite possible that there were unseen and unspoken individuals in history that played a much bigger part that many of us are unaware of.
This is still a good question, so long as it is not egocentric in nature, but rather to identify the honorable role that any human can play that ensures the establishment of equality for all, not just women.
