Buy a travel card for the tube (underground) - it costs around £5 per day for zones 1 &2, and a good tourist guide map. - You can usually find a machine that sells them at the tube station for about £3.
Get on an open top tour bus - that way you'll get to see all the important sights. Visiting individual places can be very expensive! I would recommend the Tower of London, and shopping in Covent Garden.
I used to live in London, and I would say walk everywhere you can, you'll see a lot more. And keep an eye out for small cafe's where food will be slightly cheaper than say Pret a Manger/ Costa/ Starbucks.
Oh and most importantly - don't for get to take an umbrella!! Enjoy your trip!

Some must-sees in London are:
The London Eye (one of the biggest ferris wheels in the world)
Big Ben
Harrods (best mall in England)
Buckingham Palace
You should bring a raincoat definently. Very rainy there! Get a London guide book and a map. Have fun!

Most important to bring with you is a video cam. If you are travelling using buses and train for a day, I suggest you get a 1 day travel card during off peak hours (10-2:55). it costs 6.70 pound. Peark hours (3pm onwards) will cost you 11.00 pound,

Happy trip.
