wow everyone here just says how the sabres are overrated and tere only good becuz of the shooutout and that bullshit. Ok buffalo is first in goals for and has 4 30 goal scorers. And to top that off they have had to play 32 games against teams in their devision which is arguably the toughest division and ussualy boasts three playoff teams. The sabres may have won alot of games in OT or the S.O. but who cares thay have come back from three goals behind TWICE, alot more then u can say about alot of other teams. The played almost a full month of having about what half the team being rochester players, and still kicked ***. Ok ppl if ur in the NHL that means ur above the AHL and if an NHL team cant be a team composed of half AHL players that means the sabres are damn good. They have beat the predators the team winning the west right now. And even to say being in first means nothing, the sabres have the almost exact same team as last year so expect them to go just as far. All you ppl talk about ur leafs like there good. as of right now they aint even going to the playoffs. And dont u ppl try to use the argument look at how many championships the leafs have won becuz look athow manymore years theyve been in the NHL. So all i have to say is when the sabres make it to the third round or when Danny B is drinking champaigne out of the cup the summer ill remeber all of you. LETS GO BUFFALO!!!!!

Something is definitely to be said for having to fight for a playoff spot or division title. The Stars last year with about 10 games left in the season had the division locked up and were not going to catch the Wings for the 1 seed in the west as a result they really didn't have much to play for and were horrible down the stretch and tried to just turn it on in the playoffs and went out in the 1st round in 5 games. The Sabres have been the 1 seed almost all year seemingly wrapped up the division in January and are simply going through the motions as we speak, it will be interesting to see if an early playoff exit is in store. Also as it was noted above the record is horribly inflated by the shootout (I've been making this point all year and being yelled at by Sabre fans in the process).

Every Stanley Cup champion since 1996 has had one of the five best records in the NHL, meaning they have all coasted into the playoffs.
It's the NHL playoffs. This isn't the NBA where the top two seeds are practically guaranteed a second round birth. Big upsets happen in the playoffs. So I can't sit here and say the Sabres are definitely going to make a deep playoff run. But I don't think their high positioning in the standings is a liability.

Buffalo brings it every year in the playoffs. You can whine about overtime wins, and shootout victories, all you want. The fact is who got the points, and who is on top. The fact that you win in OT alot , just goes to show, that a team is playing a full 60 minutes, night in and night out. The shot on goal factor doesnt mean much either. I am a Detroiter, and let me tell you, I have seen the Wings double up the shots on the opponents, and still loose. You can analyze stats, cry about who you think is overated, and all that. The simple fact is the game is played on the ice, not on paper, so just sit back and watch the Sabres roll, into the third round again.

jp242424... hunny, there's no 4 on 4 or shootouts in playoffs. Maybe people are whining about inflated standings-- but they don't lie. There are several better regulation teams in the league... and when it comes down to it, the Sabres don't have that OT 4-on-4 or shootout to look forward to.
Buffalo fans have nothing to be cocky about. I'm not Leafs fan, infact, I "hate" them -- but at least they've won something and as painful as it is for me to admit, they put on one hell of a show come playoff time. They won't make it far, but if they squeek into the playoffs, you'll be sure they're the ones trying to ruin another teams dream.

well their overall standings are a little fluctuated with their shootout wins and this really hurt the Dallas Stars last year. when it comes down to playoff hockey goals are hard to come by and Miller needs to be 10 times better then he really is for the Sabres to play good hockey. Miller is overrated and his GAA are pretty high and he needs to turn that around cause the Sabres aren't going to score allot of goals as they did in the regular season, and plus there not going to be facing a slow team in the first round like they did last year against the Flyers.
GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Well, first off I am a leafs fan, so lets make an assumption that Buffalo remains 1st seed, and Toronto squeaks in 8th. Now don't argue those points this is just for an example :)
They just had a home and home series that they split, but arguably toronto was the better team despite their 3rd period break down on friday. Toronto had out shot them 21-9 on friday and 17-4 in the first period of both of those games - and if they are able to hold the highest scoring team in the NHL to only 4 shots in the first period.. well.. thats pretty amazing. You also have to look at who they have up front - they don't have many big physical players in their line up right now, and thats what wins you playoff games. How did Toronto shut down Ottawa in all those playoff series when Ottawa was a superior team? They wore them down with strong, physical play. The only way that Buffalo will win in the playoffs is if they can have a third period like they had vs Toronto on friday in EVERY game, and even then I don't give them much credit.
Oh well, go leafs go, go habs go, go flames go.

The playoffs are a totally different 'season'.
They went pretty far last season.
I think they have what it takes to go all the way if they don't lose too many players to injuries like they did last year.
