There was a recently discovered species of near-humans whose adults were about the size of a modern 3-year-old child. The name given is 'Homo floresiensis' (because it was discovered on the island of Flores), and was described by many as resembling the Hobbit from the Tolkien novels. Unfortunately, the name "Hobbit" is used a lot in the press. The press also lists it as a "human ancestor" but it was probably not an ancestor, but a separate branch that lived at the same time as Homo sapiens, but went extinct.

No it is an odd creat that an author made so that they would by his books.
