I am trying to figure out Why do the kids today depend on digital clocks to tell the time? I don't get it.....

When I was in grade school, we had to learn how to tell time on a regular clock. I asked my grandaughter what the time was, and she had to go to the stove to see the digital clock. She could not tell me the time by the regular kitchen clock. Just exactly what are they learning in grade school? Isn't that an important thing for them to learn? I am so very surprised about this. Can your kids tell the time on a regular clock, or are they dependent on digital... just curious, thats all...

You nailed that one right on the head. I know women in their 30's that can't tell time from a regular clock. It is very important that children learn this, and they no longer teach them this in school. It really does need to be brought to the attention of the schools administration. Not only that, there is a generation out there that can't count change. If they don't input it into the cash register, then the machine tells them how much change to disperse. It's really unbelievable. I would recommend making up a coloring book for your grandchild, so that the learning is fun. Design a coloring book about clocks and teach her how to read one. Also, you can purchase a toy cash register and pretend that you are shopping, have her play the cashier(they Love that), then have her count your change to you, but use real money in the cash register, so as not to confuse her. I would not depend on the schools now days to teach my grandchildren the basic necessity's in life

Kids are taught how to read a digital and analog clock in school. Why wouldn't we teach them digital clocks too? It's called advancement in technology. They aren't missing out on skills, they should be taught both ways of telling time.

Along the same lines, we don't teach kids how to use a record player or a typewriter just because we learned that way.

People today are just do lazy to figure our the time on an analog clock (the big hand is here and the little hand is there...). It is just simpler to see the time digitally.

I'm in highschool, and most people in my classes can read an analouge clock. Back in grade school, i found it a little difficult to read analouge clocks, so if there was a digital clock around, i would read that instead. They still teach you how to read analouge clocks in grade school though.

Many schools are not teaching students to tell time on an analog clock. I have taught my daughters how to tell time on analog and digital clocks. I think that schools should teach student how to tell time on any clock, but many just don't have the time to teach their students.

Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends should take the time to teach children too, not just teachers.
