It occurs to me that people who were in their mid 20's in the latter 1960's in USA, are now about mid 60's and conservative as all get out. (Of course it is easy to be in favor of a war when you are not the one going to get shot, but that is another question). How did the hippies of the 1960's become the hardcore conservatives of the 2000's?

WHooo-Hoo - Hippie here - mid 60's.

You are soooo wrong... We are all still here, still living a good life, still politically active, still keeping our eyes on those who threaten to create a kingdom out of the U.S.

Out of ALL my ex-hippie friends (and there are a LOT of them still alive - HA!), there is not one Republican or conservative among them.

What you see from my generation of "radicals" is a continued interest in who's doing what to whom in Washington and insisting that they follow the Constitution. When you see a gray head in a crowd of anti-war protester - there is your hippie...when you see a gray head in a anti-death penalty rally - there is your hippie.

If you really want to see where a lot of the old hippies are, visit Fort Bragg, CA.....hippie heaven.

Co-inky-dinks are over rated, and are (as was said) over used as an excuse to hide planned events. A pseudo-God if you'd rather. The actual number on "true" coincidences in my life (and I'm sure yours too) can be counted on ones fingers of one hand. What a surprise, to finally put this one together. Enlightened & progressive oratory coming from smelly Hippy "Bong-Holes". (until they get the munchies & have to sleep it off) Who has all the answers while they're crashed? Full speed ahead for the Titanic. I'll be in my cabin. Just another coincidence ... of course.

They wised up.
The spokesperson for one of the far left anti war groups was on O'Reillys show last week.
The girl came across as a complete imbecile.
No facts - just opinions.
When her completely inaccurate statements were challenged with real black-and-white FACTS, she just kept right on going as if the nonsense she was spouting was still valid - in spite of proof to the contrary!
This has become the situation with todays far left (erstwhile hippies, if you will), ...a ragtag assortment of ill-educated rabble that argue fantasy and supposition over actual fact.
In the 60's, the antiwar movement tended to be far better educated and at least presented a fact-based argument to support their point of view.
They were also fairly united in their goal.
The end of the Viet Nam conflict.
Todays 'hippies' are really just an assortment of displaced radicals covering everyone from socialists, communists, nihilists, pro-terrorists, and every form of anti-Americanism on the planet.
Also, the hippie movement of the 60s was not financed by a billionaire 'Dr Evil' like Geaorge Sorros...and most importantly, in the 60's the ENTIRE congress was pro America...that is a highly debatable point today.

********The hippies and flower children did sit-ins on college campuses to protest the Vietnam War. Today everybody yells on Yahoo. The times change the people don't. We all grew up and heard about military families that have served this country from generation to generation. Much to their honor, they are more than proud of themselves, their children & grandchildren will eagerly follow suit. Thank the lord this is a free land and everyone feels a different way. The less educated about world economy and survivial sit back and complain. They are like the fat guy in the arm chair with a beer yelling at football players running on the field. Over the years you will learn that history does repeat itself and we are priviliged to be able to express ourselves and that's why we fight for our Freedom. The hippie movement just helped to slow us all down and smell the roses during very stressful times. GO-HIPPIES GO-HIPPIES GO-HIPPIES.
THEY ARE OLDER AND WISER NOW, THEY KNOW DRUGS ARE STUPID AND THEY RAISE THEIR CHILDREN TO STAND-UP FOR THEIR RIGHTS. THEY ARE THE BABY-BOOMERS DOING ALL RIGHT FOR THEMSELVES. **********************************************************************

That is a narrow-minded approach. Assumptions are dangerous! I don't believe all of your peops agree.

I'm more liberal now than in the sixties. I have a 33 year old son in the bush/cheney war. I have had 40 more years to become more suspicious. I still do not trust the big "E". I am not alone. Look at the recent elections and most polls.

To quote the late John Lennon, "The world didn't become all peace, love and happy chocolate" as the Hippies envisioned, so they became embittered and dropped their high ideals for cold, hard cash. Of course, not all of them did. My brother is still kind of a Hippie. He makes and repairs guitars, just as he did in the 1960's, and makes very little money at it, but he never cared much about money.

Well let's see. In 1969 I was 22 and I loved long hair. Now at age 60 I hate it. In 1969 I was all for free love and all women should do their "Love" thing. ( Or whatever they called it...I forgot ) Now look what we did....AIDS and a whole list of bad "BUGS" all because of the free love crap. "OR" how about that "Get high" and be a free spirit. Look at all the homeless old people we see under bridges and those who walk the streets looking for pop bottles.....They were once free spirits and look where it got them. Yea, they had all the answers. I'm glad I listened to the "Uncool People" back in the late 60s. I worked for the uncool military for 30 years and retired in 1999. What did I do? I looked up all the pretty cool ladies from 1968 and 1969 only to find they got fat and got white hair and their faces look like Granny Clampett. I tried to grow my hair long but guess what? My hair quit growing. ( I have 80 % left....and yes it's turning ....white) I bought a nice fast cool car and went to the local hangout only to be told I look like someone's father...or Grandfather....But one thing did not change.....I'm anti war. I was anti war back in 1969. Well, you get the picture....Not all of us are conservatives. You know what? I hope you do better than us old people who knew it all back in 1969. Best to you.

Where did all the 1960's hippies gone? When you turn on the evening news from the alphabet networks you're watching them. When you go to a university to get an education they are the ones teaching.
The reason this country has had a very fast moral decay is because those hippies are now mature and running things
