This is sort of a long story which happened long ago when a 16 year old Junin.. There was an ongoing batte and Kakashi was injured and lost his one eye. His long time friend Obito Uchia whome kakashi was not much liked by Obito at first because of Kakashis strict rules and regulation. When Rin was captured by the enemy Ninjas, obito went out to rescue her w/o Kakashi who was still stuck on being very strict , but later realize that friendship was more important then rules and set out to rescue his friend. During the combact Obito had befallen under a huge rock and in his dying words wanted to give Kakashi his right eye with the sharingan. It was transpanted into Kakashi ruined eye and that is how the story goes, but there is more to this sharingan then meets the eye. Lots to do with the number of dots in the sharingans eye has to do with how much stength that person has and how long he had the sharingan.

the story happened before itachi killed the entire uchiha clan, (excluding sasuke of course).
kakashi had a team before "the uchiha misery" and 1 of his team mate was from uchiha.(forgot the name of that guy) and that guy was not considered a good sharingan user and kakashi used to make fun of him. though they qurelled, they were actually good friends.
however, in a mission,( on kakashi`s birthday if i am not wrong) when they were fighting with the enemies, kakashi got cut in his eyes. and after a vicious battle with the enemy, that uchiha guy actually sacrificed his life to save kakashi and another team member. his half body was crushed by huge rock. and it just happened that the other member was a medical ninja. SO...eventually, that uchiha guy asked the medical ninja to dig out his eye and gave that sharingan eye to kakashi as a present. eventually kakashi and his remaining team mate defeated the enemy using the sharingan that kakashi recived.

thats how kakashi got his sharingan. and that explains how kakashi got his scar and why he says caring for teammates is the most important
hope you can understand what i wrote.that was in the manga. you could have missed it

One of kakashi's teammates when he was a genin was an uchihah (Obito) but on one of their missions he was dying and Kakashi's eye was aalready gone so obito gave kakashi his sharingan.

he got it from Obito...because obito never gave kakashi a present when kakashi became Jounin, he gave his left eye's sharingan when he was about to die as his present ...look up kakashi and Obito on image search on yahoo or google and you can see both of them as kids and see their partner when they were children.
