The problem isn't that the Leafs are a bad team, they are an "average" team. For the last 60 years they've sold out every game whether they win or lose. In the last 40 years they have never gone to the Stanley Cup finals but most years they do make the playoffs, usually going one or two rounds. They've never had a long stretch of playoff frustration such as the Red Wings had from the time Howe left until Yzerman came and the Red Wings hardly ever made the playoffs. Look at them today. Toronto would actually benefit from several bad seasons and threats of moving the team. Then they would do something.

By 2067, the Maple Leafs will still not have won the cup since 1967. However, they will still have the second longest Stanley Cup drought to the Chicago Blackhawks who will have not won the cup in 106 years.

Yes.

There are currently 30 teams. They have 60 years left, including this year, for them to win it by your deadline.

So, With the new salary cap structure, the parity between teams in the league will shrink greatly, So if all equal there is a 1/30 or 2/60 chance in them winning the cup in a given year. IF the amount of teams stays the same, That equals 2 cups by 2067. (even if the size of the league doubles by next year, there is still almost a 1:1 chance in them winning one cup by 2067.)

So the chances are very good, indeed.

A harder question is if the NHL itself will exist in the year 2067...

As a die-hard fan, it may shock you that I am in somewhat agreement with Habitant's comments. Toronto is the capital of Ontario and not sure what the population is but yes, this would pack an arena every night (and I don't live in the city - I'm 4 hours on the outside).....and yes, you would think that the Leafs organization (owners, managers, etc.) would sign some good, young players with potential for growth and quit wasting valuable resources on Belfour's, Lindros' and Peca's... Also, a good coach was needed for many years. Me & my family were overjoyed when they finally ousted Quinn - I wish they would consider Ted Nolan for the job!

I hope they win another cup in MY lifetime....I have faith that YES, it will happen.

the Leafs biggest problem is their making the money even losing year after year. the fans just keep showing up and there drilled in the head that they have a great team on the ice which they clearly don't in many many years. why keep signing players past their prime, only one reason for that to make money on selling merchandise. as long as the tickets keep getting sold you will not see them win a cup. once the fans start showing there not happy with management and make a big case about it, then maybe things will change but for now their no cup in site for a very long time.
sucks to be a Leafs fan when your owners don't give two shits about you the fans. and most Leafs fan believe everything there told by the media and are to stubborn to know the true that the Leafs organization just plan sucks.

GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

60 years from now.... Yeah, they should have won at least 1 or 2 by then.

Of course, by then, the league will probably have expanded to 93 teams, and upon completing the final game of the 9-round playoffs, there will be a 3 day break before the next regular season begins

Of course they'll win it. They definitely need their young guns to step it up though... Steen and Stajan.. Raycroft, Ponikarovsky, Antropov. A good move getting rid of Aki Berg.
Expect a few years like this one and last one where they dont make the playoffs, and may even get last place in the conference/nhl. They'll get a few draft picks, and hopefully they'll turn it around.
Otherwise, they'll trade away for all the experience in the league, everyone will underestimate them except for us die hard canadians, and they'll pull an upset on a high ranked team like... say the penguins in the future.

I don't know if there will be a league in 2067. It depends when the cybermonkey revolution occurs and the world is overrun my robot monkies.

Hey Joe, at least the Leafs won something. What has Buffalo won ever?

Sure, I say they'll win the Cup within the next 20 years....probably not before 7 years, but definitely within 20.

No, but they will make it to the semi-finals,but lose to the upstart team from Bolivia in 2059. Fans will riot quietly back under the ruins of the CN tower, blame the refs, and scream " wait until next year
