I don't understand. I read magazines and stuff and it would be like

so like this girl had an [attitude].

i don't know when you use these brackets and why.

help please and thank you

The case you have mentioned is a quote, and brackets are used to indicate what is being referred to, because the person has not directly mentioned it in his or her speech. The words inside the brackets are things added by the person who is reporting the speech. They are not spoken by the speaker.

They are trying to explain more about what is happening without actually haveing to continue the sentence. thus reduces the number of words they have to type yet getting the same message across

in cases like those you mentioned, they use brackets to refer to those things written in brackets.
