It depends, are you going in fresh water(a lake) or the ocean. I do want to make you aware of something very important though. On a pontoon boat if you stop the engine and dive over the side, people have a tendensee to swim up under the boat and come up between the pontoons. Several people have died from this, because of the exhaust fumes are trapped under there and when they come up and take a deep breath, they are killed instantly from carbon monoxide posssioning. Just a warning. I own a 23 foot Pro Line with a wrap around cuddy, for deep sea fishing, it has two outboard motors. I do not recommend IO's(thats inboard/outboard), they have a tendicey to leak and can be costly constantly repairing them. I would recommend a trawler for entertaining, it will have a diesel engine, that's a great off shore vessel.I suggest that you look on e-bay, or craqigslist, http://www.craigslist.org that you buy from and individual instead of a boat yard. When I purchased my boat, I only wanted something to go fishing naked with my husband, HaHa, we have great tans!!! I paid $5,500 for it. I just looked at one at a boat dealer and he wanted 70,000 for it. I don't know what part of the country that you live in, but there are some great deals out there on boats. Its best if you can find someone wanting to sell their vessel, because they want to upgrade and buy a larger one. You have saved plenty of money to get the vessel of your choice. Now all that you have to do is find the one that makes you comfortable.Good Luck
By the way, I'm a retired female Ships Captain, so I do know a little bit about boats. Ok, please excuse my spelling this morning I'm a little brain dead

If you just want to relax on the lake, go with a pontoon boat. They have canopies tht you can stay out of the sun, but also have a very open design. Bennington is a good brand for pontoon boats. If you want a boat that has the capacity to hold more than 12 or 14 people, expect to spend a chunk of change. If you want a boat that will go more than 20mph, look at sundeck/deckboat series. Four Winns makes some good boats in this category, as well as, Crownline. These boats are typically more expensive, but they can do more (skiing, etc). The only thing you can do on pontoon boats is tube or kneeboard.

As boats go that would not buy very much. If you want to have parties the buy a raft or make one. Pontoon boat some call them but it is a raft.
