As a kid we always had family pets: dogs, cats, bunnies, etc. When I moved on my own my first pet was a grey cockatiel named Poco...I taught him to talk & whistle...he was my roommate for 7 years before I married. That bird was the best! He almost got me evicted from an apartment because he would mimic the next door neighbor's dog barking. My landlord pounded on my door one day and demanded I get rid of the dog. I told him it was my bird & he didn't believe me! He searched my apartment and thank God the bird started barking when he was there....he laughed and apologized to me, leaving the apartment I heard him say "now I've heard everything!"

My dad had 2 dogs--a chihuahua and a poodle, and he had 2 snapping turtles, so they were my first pets.
