It is a statistical term which means
In probability theory and statistics, a median is a number dividing the higher half of a sample, a population, or a probability distribution from the lower half. The median of a finite list of numbers can be found by arranging all the observations from lowest value to highest value and picking the middle one. If there are an even number of observations, the median is not unique, so one often takes the mean of the two middle values.
At most half the population have values less than the median and at most half have values greater than the median. If both groups contain less than half the population, then some of the population is exactly equal to the median.

The middle number in a series which has been arranged in an ascending number.
If the number of terms,n in the series is odd, the median number =[(n+1)/2]th number
If the number of terms,n in a series is even, the median number
={ [n/2]th number+[(n+1)/2]th number }/2

'Median' means 'middle score'. It is used in statistics, when you write all the scores down in chronological order, and find the middle one.
E.g.
1,3,4,6,8
There are 5 scores, so the middle one is the third score.
Therefore, the median of these results is 4
When you've got an even number of scores,
E.g.
2,4,6,7,8,9
You find the middle two, and average them.
The middle terms are 6 and 7
So the median is 6.5
Hope that helps =)

if you are given a series of numbers, you should arrange it first in increasing order.
median is the middle number of your series
for example
the numbers given are 12 35 41 2 7 1 5
if you arrange it in increasing order, it will be
1 2 5 7 12 35 41
in that series of numbers, seven numbers are given
therefore the middle number is the fourth number in that series so your median is 7
