Your math is pretty close to on the mark, however most of those at that time were in transition. meaning lots were leaving and coming so they overlapped for a few weeks, this will be a sustained front aimed at Baghdad. which so far seems to be making a difference and all extras are not here yet.
The new stragety must be given a chance and if it dont work then come up with another one.
But we should never give in. It is always easy to look in hindsight to say something is wrong or right. But we should never quit.

Only while the troops are there, in the middle of the troubled areas. Once they leave, the Iraqis will finish their civil war. I think this surge strategy could be called "delaying the inevitable"

It depends on how we actually utilize the troops. I appears that our current strategy may be yielding some results. I think it has less to do with total numbers than with how we are employing them.

Let's hope for the best.

the only thing that needs done in Iraq is for the US forces to leave , once gone send over a two or three stealth bombers and nuke the whole thing off the map .

maybe then the terriost would learn not to piss the US off

This whole thing is wrong. I know that everyone in the US supports the troops and that's what they deserve. The reason is wrong and it won't work. They are doing it all wrong!
