I'm not sure my brain works good enough to remember entire 'weekend updates', but I can remember little skits within them. I think the ones that made me laugh were the introduction to "Operaman" and to "Tommy Flanagan- the worlds most compulsive liar". Those 2 characters were so different, and they both made their first appearance during weekend update.
And as for Buckwheat being shot, that didn't happen during 'weekend update'. It happened as a 'News Break', then ran throughout that show. If that would have started during 'update', it would have been my answer.
