Interesting - when I was a teenager I found a wallet, no id just lotsa cash. I handed it into to the local police and never heard from them again.
MANY years later, a girlfriend of mine found a relatively expensive digital camera. We called the cops and were told we could hand it in or just hold on to it - after six months it was ours, if nobody reported it missing/lost/stolen.
Nobody did - It was full of shots of one particular women in various naked poses (nobody famous, attractive but not glamour model, and no we don't still have them - they got deleted)

If YOU lost this money, and someone else found it, what would you want them to do?
I would want them to connect with me somehow in order to get it back to me.
The best two ways I know are give it to the police, or put an ad in the paper. Both ways should not have any description of how much money was lost, or how it looked in bills and coinage, or any containers it was in. The description should only say exactly where the money was found and when it was found there by you. This will help the person who lost it by tracing their own steps as to where they might have lost it, without giving away the details of the money itself. They will already know how much they lost, unless they did not keep an accurate count of the contents of their personal cash.

Under Anglo-American common law tradition, lost property which presents no means of identifying the original owner goes to the finder.
As a believer in the law of karma, I would donate most/all of the money to a worthy cause.

Remember Karma Works. If it was your money , say for your rent that you lost , wouldn't you want someone to turn it in to say , the police? or advertise that they had found some $ and only you could say how much it was and describe it ? What goes around - comes around.

It would depend on where I found the money. If at a hotel or similar public place, I would turn it in. If it's just lying on the street....hello Vegas....

Although it is honest to turn it in, who do you turn it in to? How does one prove they lost a wad of cash? Spend!

honesty is the best policy , turn it in. If noone claims it and can prove ownership you may get to keep it anyways. Its very tempting but its not yours to keep , do the right thing.

I think I'd have to give it in. You are given a record of this and if it isn't claimed after so many days it becomes yours (so I've heard)
