If you're given an IP address how will you know its organization?

this is the IP address 18.8.82.23 I know it's belongs to MIT right? but I don't know how do we figure it out.

You can do a WhoIS and also a TRACERT to see the path the packet is taking.

by going to this site and typing in the IP address
http://www.internic.net/whois.html

Just use an IP lookup site such as http://www.zoneedit.com/lookup.html?ad=goto&kw=reverse+dns
