1. Make sure the roses are hardy for your area. Believe it or not, some stores will sell roses that won't last the winter.

2. Make sure the graph bump stays above ground or you'll end up just growing the root stock and not the rose you think you bought.

3. Put lots of rocks and pebbles in the hole.

4. Fill with bagged rose soil mixed with plain topsoil

5. Add a rotten banana to each hole. Once a year, side-dress by burying a rotten banana near each rosebush.

6. Don't let leaves or debris pile up near the roses.

7. Hand pick any bugs that pester them, and watch for rust or black spot. treat right away.

8. If you live in a zone that has winter, make a little house for each rosebush right after the first killing frost. One way is to cut the bottom off a basket, put it around the rose and then fill with chopped leaves or shredded newspaper.
