At 7 months old i'd almost guess hes teething....there are other signs that it might be if hes constantly chewing on his hands or toys and such...but at 7 months it could also be an ear infection or something like that.....babies that age get those alot too.....my suggestion is this #1 dont panic because the tylenol is taking the fever down when you give it its not anything terrible....you can give both infant motrin and tylenol at the same time because they are two completely different medicines...it will help with the waiting for the temp to go up before giving more medicine....because motrin is every 6 hours not 4.....but i suggest if hes not feeling better by monday you do take him to the dr to get his ears checked out.....unless it gets astronomically high and or doesnt come down with medications ...i think a trip to the emergency room will be uneventful...good luck...Rosie

Honestly, the only reason to go to the ER is if the fever is high and persistent(meaning it hasn't broken in 24 hrs). If it can be broken with Tylenol then just take him to the doctor Monday. If he's eating and, more importantly, drinking and sleeping fine then just wait. A fever means his body is fighting an infection and that could be an ear infection(even if he's not pulling on his hear). I would be concerned if his temp was over 102 consistently. Keep an eye on him but I wouldn't worry too much unless 1)Persistent high fever 2)not drinking 3)lethargic 4)not sleeping. You could alternate with Motrin, 7 months isn't too young for that. Also do a warm bath and let him sit in it...as the water cools off his temp will come down too. But don't just stick him in a luke-warm bath, that will bring his body temp down too fast and he'll have the shivers. Good luck!

yes I would give him motrin since the recommended age is 6 months plus it stays in the system longer. If it does not go down after that then I would take him to the doctor on monday. But it it gets any higher then a trip to the er is necessary. Watch him closely to make sure that he is not lethargic(very sluggish, not moving), not eating or doing his normal things that he do. The best way to read his temp is in his rectum even though he may not like it.just put a little bit of petroleum on in first. Make sure that you are ok I know how it feels to not know whats wrong I have 15 month old twin boys and every time they get like that I wonder. It could be that he is teething, tired and or may have a infection or maybe a earache. Is he messing with his ears, pulling at them, any discharge from the ears. When my children had a temp like that, that would be ok as long as they were getting the motrin then when it wore off the temp was still the same, they were teething, and had a earache. Best wishes to you and your son, I hope he feels better.

Another common question is 'Is it safe to alternate acetaminophen and ibuprofen?' If you are using the correct dosage of each medicine at the correct times, then it is probably safe in most children, although there is no research to prove that it helps or that it is safe. The problem is that it is easy to get confused and give an extra dose of one or the other medicines. And in some children, especially if they are dehydrated or have other medical problems, giving both medications can cause serious side effects, especially affecting the kidneys. If you are alternating fever reducers, then write down a schedule with the times that you are giving the medicines so that the correct medicine is always given at the correct time.
And remember that it is not always necessary to give your child a fever reducer. In most cases, fever is treated as a comfort measure. Treating a fever, especially if it is caused by an infection, will not help your child get better any faster, but it may help make her feel better. If your child has a fever, especially if it is low grade, but does not feel bad, then you don't really need to give her a fever reducer.

If he's happy and playing and he's eating and drinking and giving you plenty of wet diapers, no need to worry.
If he's miserable, you can give the tylenol - it won't bring the fever down to normal, but as long as it comes down a degree or two, that's good. (I don't like alternating with Motrin unless it's specifically directed by a doctor - the risk of overdosing is really high!) Motrin is more effective on fevers over 102.5 anyway.
If the fever itself isn't making him unhappy and he's not acting like he's in pain, there's really no need to even give him the Tylenol just to supress the fever for the sake of supressing the fever. Just dress him lightweight and make sure he drinks a lot. Fever is the body's friend - it's the body's first line of defense against a germ, and sometimes all the body needs to do to fight it out.

babies have high temps because of anything from teeth to ear infections. If you don't feel comfortable giving him motrin an tylenol then let him play in a luke warm bath the water will help relieve the fever and there for make him more comfortable until tomarrow when you have your visit.

You should alternate the tylenol and motrin every 4 hours or you can give him just motrin it is better for high fevers. If he has no other signs of sickness then he may have a virus if that's the case then you just have to let it run it's coarse. Just keep his fever down. If he starts getting any other signs or his fever gets higher take him to the Dr. Good luck

I would not mess around with a temp of 101.8 I doubt if it is because of his teeth. Usually a temp indicates a infection. It could also be just a 48 hour virus. However I think I would take
your child to a urgent care or the hospital to be checked out. Better to be safe than sorry.....Hope your baby starts to feel better soon !! Good Luck

You're okay waiting until monday. Thats a high fever, but it isn't life-threatening yet. If it gets any higher, bring him into the ER. You can switch out tylenol, advil, motrin, anything, really- as long as its a different drug. Wait about half an hour between doses so it dosen't hurt his stomach. As long as he's responsive and his fever dosen't go any higher, you can wait until monday. Just monitor him carefully to make sure it dosen't go up!
