Joe Montana wasnt cut - he was traded, and the trade occurred before the salary cap was implemented in 1994. Montana was already in his second season with the Chiefs then.

Ronnie Lott went from the 49ers to the Raiders in 1991. The salary cap started in 1994.

Junior Seau wasnt cut - he was traded

Edgerrin James wasnt cut - he signed with Arizona as a free agent after the Colts would not show him the money

Rodney Harrison - considering he got two Super Bowl rings as a result of the Chargers cutting him, I dont think he qualifies

up in the chain - Steve McNair wasnt cut, he was traded

gotta be Emmitt Smith- he gave everything to the Cowboys

Joe Montana easily...If you've got the greatest QB in the history of the game, you don't just cut him in favor of the best backup in the game at the time (Steve Young)...It was like the 49ers woke up one day and decided Joe was too old...Stupid...Young did win the Super Bowl all by himself...ONE Super Bowl...of course, it also helped that he still had Jerry Rice, the greatest WR ever to play the game...

Montana went on to the Chiefs, and lead them to the AFC Championship game...so, obviously he was not too old...

Emmitt Smith - he gave everything to the cowboys and they just dumped him after he said he wanted to retire as a cowboy. Fortunately they sucked even worse once he left.

Joe Montana we all see him as the greatest quarterback ever even if you aren't going to keep him as a starter make him a backup if for the fans sake.

plus it's not like Joe Montana was bad when he went to the
chiefs he did get to the AFC championship.

Steve McNair - Titans.
He carried that team on his shoulders. True, they haven't been very good in seasons of late. But they would have been even worse if it weren't for Steve.
Vince will be in the same boat in a few years down the road.
These teams don't really care about their players, it's a business.
