I've seen pics of them, some are tiny and some look huge. Can you different ones, some that stay small and some that grow big?

Turtles come in all sizes. There are a few species that stay in the 3-4" range, and some tortoises and sea turtles that get a few feet long and weight a ton.

Among the common pet turtles, the Reeves Turtle, and the Mud and Musk Turtles stay pretty small- 4-6", while the common Red-ear Slider is a pretty big guy at about 12" for the female.

Terrapins or turtles all grow to a fairly big size, you are probably talking between 8 and 12 inches. There is no such thing as one that stays small no matter what anyone says.
