I mean...politically speaking things couldn't get any worse for us could they? Sure, we've had some OK music, but given the question, over the past 30 or so years are you happy about the way the USA has allowed itself to be portrayed around the world?

Great question
The last 30 years have made all the difference, its a period during which initially lots of good things came out of America, lots of things America & Americans where proud of and rightly so.If it had Made in the USA on it you knew it was a great product produced by companies that where passionate about their products and wellworth the price. It gave great pride in ownership in knowing you owned the best-electronics, tools, musical instruments, clothing etc.
Now its just Chinese crap, made to look like its the real thing, it isn't and never will be what America at its best could produce.
American workers have been sold down the river, and now its happening here in Europe , fewer and fewer people make more and more money, whilst the workers , their skills, communities, traditions and fantastic products are replaced by "reputably " branded goods thats only merit is it makes more profit.
America has cultivated a reputation in recent years, through political incompetence which quite rightly it is not proud of, but America like the UK could rise again with integrity, pride and patriotism. But politicians are the last people in the World to make this happen, its down to ordinary people;what they do, what they say, what they buy,how they treat each other ,their integrity and the application of the principles and values that men and women from "both sides of the water" fought and died for in the last century, before the politicians screw the planet and its population up irreversably.

The Simpsons. It's brilliant. If only all American TV programmes were as good as this. What's so intriguing is, you need a pretty good grasp of American history, culture, politics etc. to understand it. Which says a lot about the fact that it regularly tops the ratings in the UK and elsewhere.

Oh, yes, and films like those by Michael Moore which question the actions of the US Establishment.

The thing with America is that most of you seem to think like Dennis S (who answered this question) ... but still don't understand why people don't like you...

Dennis S is in power .. you are not ... thats a shame... but you get what you vote for...

Bill Clinton was well respected ...but you guys were more worried about how he treated his wife than the rest of the world...

To be honest .. I don't think that 'Americans' are hated ...and certainly not here in england ... we sort of see you as more brawn than brain... but you do elect actors don't you ..?

and as for anything good coming out..?: Movies...Music

Yes it could get worse for us politically, the left could gain more power. The good in America is it's continued defense of freedom here and around the world. And the vast opportunities available for it's citizens. As evidenced by the fact that so many people from around the world try so hard to come here to live. I am very happy being an American with or with out it's problems. No I don't care what people around the world think of us. After all my fore fathers came here to get away from them.

The US has ended the nuclear threat of the Soviets, given untold billions in aid and disaster relief. continues to be the worlds foremost contributer in new technology and medicine.
History will prove GW Bush was RIGHT in going into Iraq (of course mistakes were made in the execution of this war, but that can be said for any war. I notice most of the Bush-haters really don't have any historical reference when they demean Bush. - ignorance is not a debating position...that's why it is impossible to debate these people.)
Your question is posed from the standpoint of yet another USA detractor....surely a more fitting question would be:
What country has contributed MORE positve things to the world in the last 30 years than the US?
Answer - absolutely none.

There has been plenty good to come out of America, but politically much of what goes on over there is seen a a joke by the rest of the world.

You only have to look in this section to see the vitriol hurled by each side at the other.

I think Skyhawk says it all about the new America. Arrogant beyond belief. I don't expect we'll see them land on their **** in our lifetimes, but I live in hope.

And Anthony W talks about forgiving debts. The USA has the highest foreign debt of any nation on earth.

I feel the recent youth culture of the USA has been a bonus to the USA. The young adore the hip-hop fashion. In all countries I've visited they all want this type of clothing, baggy pants etc. and they love the music. This is a plus, these hip-hop artists should be your ambassadors, the young listen and admire them. Put them to good use...

Up until the past few years, the US was seen as a good country. It protected those who couldn't defend themselves ( Iraq invasion #1), it brought down the nuclear power of the USSR, it has taken a strong stand against terrorism, and, economically, it became a leader. It is only recently that public opinion has dropped, mainly due to Bush's popularity.
