This question is not specific enough, it doesen't say specifically if Karl would have saved 20% on 1 folder, or 5 folders. Therefore you can't arrive at an accurate answer. All 5 would have given him a 2.50 savings. Just multiply 2.50 by 5 folders you get 12.50 now take 12.50 and multilply that by .20 and you will get 2.50. Not exactly sure how that can be 8th grade math though, too simple, maybe 4th grade.

Total cost= 2.5*5= $12.50

At a sale of 20%, Karl would have to buy the things at 80% of the price he had bought it.

Total Save= 12.50*0.20
=$2.5

The answer is C

C is the right answer.

20% off of 2.50 is 50cents off per folder. So each folder will cost 2.00 instead of 2.50.

50 cents savings per folder times five folders = 2.50

C)$2.50

cost of folders-$2.50 X amount purchased-5 = $12.50

$12.50 X .20(or 20%)= $2.50(savings)

C. $2.50

(10% of 2.50 is 0.25 - knock off a 0, double to get 20% = 0.50, the multiply by 5 ---> $2.50)

10% of $12.50 is $1.25. Double that to make 20% and your answer would be C) $2.50.
I like to figure percentages by doing the simplest first 10%, 25%, etc. and figuring from there.

2.5 times 5 = 12.50

To find 20% of 12.50:
divide 12.50 by 100 and then multiply by 20.
