Having lived in Northeast PA, I understand your concern because there are not as many options as in New York , Philadelphia, or even parts of New Jersey. So, find local community theater and audition. Is the Pocono Play House Still around? They use to have a lot of opportunities. Take any classes you can. Check out the local and community colleges- Monroe County Community College, East Stroudsburg etc. - or look for community based classes at the local theaters or other places. Get roles even small ones and then practice your craft and learn to take direction well.

The PA Renaissance Faire in Mannheim is a good place to get acting experience, and there is a new Faire in Wilks-Barre I have heard. Just don't get stuck in the "Rennie Playtron Rut", you also need expericence on the regular stage and screen.

Use "Craig's List" Gigs-Talent in Philly and New York to find roles in student/independent short film. Roles in these short film gives you experience and you don't have to make the commitment to drive to New York as often as working in a play. (Be careful with Craig's list New York - there is a lot of Model Gig's looking for adult work. Just use your head and be careful.)

To get ready to audition learn a few good monologues. I suggest a Dramatic Monologue for your age range, a Comic, and a Classical (Shakespeare). Then get a Headshot done. Make sure you have the picture on disc so you can print it out. Later you will want it professional printed, but to start in community theater computer printed will be okay. Make a resume' and staple or glue it to the back of the headshot. Look around on-line for an example of a acting resume' to model yours after.

Send you resume' to casting agents and go to open calls in bigger areas. You are going to need to drive a lot once this gets going, and face the fact that if you want to make a living at this you will need to move, but don't do it until you know you got the paying gig's or at least a good day job in the city.

You can also go to the big regional audtions for summer stock theater where many directors go. Theses gigs are temporary, but a great place to get experience.

Good Luck - Break a Leg!

i'm going to be blunt. you're unlikely to be a widespread actress. the opportunities are extraordinarily stacked against you. flow get lunch in l. a., and you will meet better than one actress/waitress who needs to be the subsequent famous guy or woman. To be straightforward, your odds are even worse. Now that Sandra Bullock is a famous guy or woman, she would be in a position to be picky approximately what she does. An actor who has no longer made it huge takes any and each available place, hoping to get observed. If which ability making a music on a cat nutrition commericial, you do it. in basic terms being in one coach isn't a good initiate. some widespread actors make huge money, however the rest won't be able to even help themselves with appearing. Are you going to be the only in one million who hits it huge? probable no longer. in case you flow the medical music, you will possibly be able to make a good residing. in spite of in case you may no longer extremely make it into medical college, you may flow to PA college or NP college or get your MSN, and you will make a good residing.

How old are you? If you're still in school look to get involved in community theater and theater programs at your school to gain experience. Once you get to college you can chose to major in theater at a college in LA or NYC so you can get to know the area if you decide to move out there to pursue a career in drama. Good luck!
