liposuction - Sure exercise is great and ultimately is what you need to maintain the weight, but you need to lose it now and lipo is the only way to do it that fast.

I can not support the idea of spot reduction personally because it is not really possible to move fat from one part of the body alone unless you go in for a surgery (Liposuction). The best way is to exercise and as you mentioned that you are going to the gym as well, you can ask the gym instructor to teach you certain exercises which are focussed mainly to shape up thighs and hips. Those exercises if done in the right manner do help shape up.
anyway here ar some tips for you:
hip size can be reduced by brisk walking, swimming and cross trainer. Yoga asana is you lie on the stomach and extend your legs one at a time, take your leg up upto 45 degree and count to 5 and try with other leg. then there is another asana where you take both your arms and legs up to around 30 degree count to 5 and relax. But best is the cross trainer and brisk walking, even skipping if your health allows is great.

An alternative to the above answers - is wear a corset! Your hips are not going to decrease but it will give you a nipped in waist and make you look curvier.
Try www.whatkatiedid.com for a selection of waspies and corsets. Or a good lingere section on the high street.
