(to secure the votes of fence riding moderate Republicans and conservative Democrats on Iraq) when Repubs have been the greatest porkers of all?

According to a Congressional Research Service study, the number of earmarks in spending, or appropriations, bills went from 4,126 in 1994 to 15,877 in 2005. The value of those earmarks doubled to $47.4 billion in the same period. Earmarked projects often include roads, bridges and economic development efforts.

The Republicans in office are. Those of us who are just electorate and complaining about spending for the past 4 years are not.
The elected Democrats are just putting more pressure on an already strapped federal budget.

I think a more appropriate question is are the people who criticized the republican congress for their spending and are now not criticizing this group,,,,,,,,,,,are they the real hypocrites.

I criticized the last group, I criticized the group before. I will always criticize congress as long as it is run by corrupt careerists. The vote has failed, congress has learned that it can buy your vote with pork and are doing so with impunity and yet all you can do is sit and post mindless partisan crap.

thanks for nothing.

It depends. If Dems are attaching programs that have been neglected under the previous "do nothing" Congress, then that's hardly pork, especially if it needs attending to anyway.

If they're attaching earmarks to build worthless bridges, to name airports after their icons, to funnel money to their favorite religious or social groups, or to funnel contracts to their buddies, then it is pork.

But in any case, whether or not the Dems are, in fact, passing pork, yes, the Republicans are massive hypocrites to complain about it. Standard operating procedure, though. If you look at social issues, government policy, military policy.... anything, they are hypocritical. This is because they have to sell their actions to the general public, but their actions benefit select corporate and personal interests. Of course their rhetoric won't align with their actions. Their words only serve to try and bamboozle public opinion. That's the sad state of the current Republican party - they are only interested in power and money.

They are only complaining because they don't get to funnel to THEIR pork.
