can u use a tv tuner for the computer without the ir transmitter?

I just purchased a ati tv tuner 550 card but the channels will not show up, i think because i dont have the ir blaster cable(a cable that connect to the sensor on a directv box or cable so u can change the channels) can u use a tv tuner card without having that sensor cable tried to use media center and it keeps saying ir transmitter not found

Yes.
If you feed the "out" from the cable box to the TV tuner it will show and/or record whatever channel the cable box is set to.

The TV tuner must be initially configured & set up with the cable box ON.
Go through the setup process step by step & it will pick up the signal just fine.
I've done this myself.

CAREFUL to remember not to change channel on the cable box while you are recording a TV show with the PC tuner.
