I know that my Muslim friends take them very seriously.

I remembered an article I read about them online a long time ago and managed to find it for you:

I don't know how about now but a few years ago they promised to send you a jinn (in exchange for a considerable sum, of course). Well, use your power of discernment...

Djinn, or Jinn, is where we get the word Genie.....and genius
Allah created Jinn from smokeless fire (humans were created from clay) Jinn can look like any ordinary human, they have free will like humans (angels don't) they can interbreed with humans, (angels can't) Jinn can be either good or evil, Satan is Jinn, Jinn can listen in and report on humans, and they are said to posess "magical" powers. Some Jinn, called ghul, are said to be shapeshifters, and haunt graveyards, that'w where we get the word Ghoul. There is an entire chapter in the Qur'an named after the Djinn.

For each human there is a jinn, and they interact on another plane that is barely connected to ours. Much has been written about them, and the best sources are the Islamic stories about them since they are acknowledged as part of the inhabitants of this earth.

I know that I have had many a battle with them and have won the war. It was their wish, so I could free them and they could become good.

The Devil. They are now part of God's warriors that carry out His vengeance and under His authority---not mine. I relinquished that power that I acquired from them to free them---same concept that Jesus did to wash away our sins.

According to Islamic beliefs, they are made from smokeless fire and there are Muslim ones and non-Muslim ones, good ones and bad ones.

There's a lot more info at this website: http://muttaqun.com/jinn.html

Arent they what Genies are based on? They grant you three wishes but they are evil and you end up dying.
