I passed on the first try at age 16. I drove off the side of the road trying to merge later that day, so maybe I was quite ready for the open road.

In California, you are allowed 3 tests. If you fail all 3, then you have to pay for a new license again, and then retake all written exams and start with a new batch of driving tests, which is only 3 again. If you fail those 3 then you should buy a bicycle.

I had to retake my test once. I was 16 at the time!

I passed it on the second try at age 16. I knocked over a cone on the first try. To this day, I still don't know how to parallel park.

I personally took " Drivers Education " in High School, then took test at local Dept. of Motor Vehicles. That, I believe was when I was 151/2 in 1956.........Good Luck !!
