Lead paint is mostly dangerous to children, as they have a propensity to eat it. If you have pealing lead paint, I recommend that you contact a lead abatement contractor to remove it. If it is not pealing, or cracking, you can encapsulate lead paint with a special paint.

Lead paint can be dangerous. Peeling and chipping creates dust that contains lead. The dust is then inhaled or ingested off your hands. The Les the Painter needs to do some research. Painters have gotten severe lead poisoning from scraping lead paint without proper protective equipment, and doing things like smoking while they are working. Search 'lead paint' on any search engine. You'll find hundreds of articles. If you have children in the home, get professional help.

The difficulty and hazard of peeling lead paint is in the dust and in the effect it has on children, primarily those in there formative years from newborne to age 7.

Inhaling the dust is about 100 times more toxic than even ingesting an actual chip, hence the higher regulatory levels for friction areas like door jambs and window sashes.

Lead in homes and how it is dealt with is very well regulated.

I was changing galvanized pipes in a home to copper . A village inspector came around and swab ed the joints to be sure that I wasn't using lead solder. I took him over to the supply by the water meter and showed him the feed was a lead pipe. A lot of homes still have lead feeds in older towns. No, the paint will not hurt you.
